Description

Image is a downstream view of the wrecked derrick and bridge falsework resulting from a storm that tipped the derrick off the bridge. Broken beams, tipped pilings and a section of the bridge deck are lying in a heap on the gravel river bar in foreground with the damaged bridge behind. Ralph Soberg, who worked on this bridge at the time, describes this incident in his 1991 book "Bridging Alaska". The mountainside forms the backdrop.
