Description

Image is of a lane-and-a-half gravel road through heavy spruce forest in the direction of a prominent mountain, identified as Pioneer Peak. This is the newly constructed road from Palmer that connected the Matanuska Valley to Anchorage after the Knik River bridge was completed in September of 1936. The location shown is in the vicinity of Bodenburg Butte as the road approaches the Knik River.
